- What is the title of your Course/Apprenticeship?
Trainee management.
- What is your job title?
My job title is apprentice trainee manager.
- Why did you choose an Apprenticeship?
I chose an apprenticeship because I’ve always felt I learn better by taking an active role in what I am doing. I was interested to learn how to lead a team and gain a stronger knowledge and understanding of what it involves, for instance people management, developing strong working relationships, and maintaining stock.
Another reason I chose an apprenticeship is because I would like to advance further within the hospitality industry and felt this qualification would be a fantastic opportunity for me going forward.
- Is there any advice you would give to anyone considering an Apprenticeship?
To anyone considering an apprenticeship my advice would be to have confidence in yourself. I would also say that if you are the type of person who loves meeting new people it is a great opportunity.
Working an apprenticeship in this industry has the potential for so much career satisfaction, especially if you like to take on new challenges and enjoy problem solving.
The main thing I would say is to believe and the rest will follow.
- What has been the highlight of your Apprenticeship?
The highlight of the apprenticeship so far would be having the opportunity to work in so many different areas of the hotel. Since beginning this apprenticeship, I have been working in new departments and taking on new challenges.
I have also been lucky to be given the chance to lead teams, starting with dinner services and eventually being asked to lead teams for larger functions. I have always been someone who thrives under pressure so taking this new step in my career has been both very exciting and rewarding so far.
- What are the next steps for you after your Apprenticeship?
Following this apprenticeship, I hope to continue expanding my knowledge and experience within the Caithness Collection with an end goal to one day work in a hotel in one of Scotland’s major cities.
